Unfortunately, two seephole breaches of the main canal bank opened up over night and the only alternative is to shut down the canal.
Both breaches are in shotcrete repaired areas so there is no viable repair options with the water running.
Once seeps on canal banks start they only get bigger and greatly increase the probability of a full breech and the subsequent safety risk and flooding.
Given our scheduled turn off was next Friday, this situation will now effectively end the irrigation season for this year.
We will be shutting down the river diversion before noon today and you will see flows gradually diminish into this evening.
